July 28, 2008, Monday Read: Jer 13:1-11 Mt. 13: 31-35 "The reign of God is like a mustard seed which someone took and sowed in his field. It is the smallest seed of all, yet when full grown it is the largest of plants." (Mt. 13:31-32) I cannot recall any giant events that were life-changing which brought me to Christ. I remember the small, intimate moments with the Lord. I remember people selflessly teaching me about Jesus. I remember my mother kissing the image of the Sacred Heart, which we have in our living room. Many small things -- when added together, they make the faith that I have. One by one, the saints answered their call; some spectacularly, some humbly, but all said ‘yes’ to the call of God. Many people in our world today under-estimate the power of God; they are sure that we who are followers of the Lord are really kind of ‘wacky’ and that, if we had it our way, we would "turn the clock back" on all the "gains" that they have made for our society. They have no idea how powerful God is, how He will indeed have His way in the end, and how no amount of ‘foot dragging’ or resistance will stop the coming of the Kingdom as He has designed it, with His laws and His faithful people inhabiting it. With the saints, we can choose to build up His Kingdom in our own small ways. Or we can choose to stand in the way. But if we choose the latter, we will lose. There is no stopping the Kingdom. "The saints will shine like the sun in their Father’s kingdom." (Mt. 13:43) Reflection and commentary Psalm 105: "He greatly increased his people and made them stronger than their foes, he changed their hearts." |
