July 2008 Readings

July 29, 2008, Tuesday St. Martha

Read: Jer 14:17-22 Mt. 13: 36-43

Opening Prayer

"The Son of Man will dispatch his angels to collect from his kingdom all who draw others to apostasy, and all evildoers. The angels will hurl them into the fiery furnace where they will wail and grind their teeth." (Mt. 13:41-42)

The growth in knowledge and the applications from the advancement in technology that have taken place in the last 60 years are truly staggering.

God did not give us a mind refined and elaborated with all the knowledge necessary -- or even attainable. Rather, He gave us the capacity to know. It seems the more we know, the more remains to be known.

God has revealed Himself in those areas where we are incapable of deducing things that are beyond us, and to save us from getting lost in superstition and, at times, utter paganism.

Naturally man knows and can indeed intuit that our life does not end with death. All cultures have tried to open the mysterious "curtain" on the other side of death.

God knows the ‘other side’ very well, because He is the other side. He not only knows what Heaven is all about, but came to orient us toward enjoying eternal life. We really are God’s exceptional and preferred creatures, and He wants us to spend all eternity with Him.

"I came into the world as light, so that everyone who believes in me might not remain in darkness. ... I did not come to condemn the world but to save the world." (Jn. 12:46-48)
