July 8, 2008, Tuesday

Read: Hos. 8: 4-7, 11-13 Mt. 9: 32-38

Opening Prayer

"The harvest is good but laborers are scarce. Beg the harvest master to send out laborers." (Mt. 9:36-37)

God choose to save us. We are so important to God. He made us to be in union with Him. "God created man in his image; in the divine image he created him; male and female he created them...." (Gn. 1:27)

He shares with us the very dominion over all creation. With God, we work out our destiny here, and with His divine grace, our eternal destiny as well.

When we fell through sin and threw asunder all His moral order, which He established from all time, He came to our rescue. He gave us the opportunity to rehabilitate ourselves. We, in collaboration with His grace, can dedicate ourselves to Him and our neighbor.

Christ could have created a way to save humanity without any cooperation on our part -- but not without turning us into His slaves against our will. He honors our freedom, because true love, can only exist in freedom. He honors our will and trusts us to choose our way... with Him or against Him.

He does not beg the Father to force a response from us... rather, He asks the Father that we respond and help others to know His divine love and His divine mercy. He offers, we respond. "Beg the harvest master to send out laborers to gather his harvest."

The spreading of His message and the sharing of His mercy depends on our work with Him and our work with each other. For our neighbor to hear the Word and for the effectiveness of His message, we need to respond.
